If you’re anything like us, you’re dreading New Year’s resolutions but are also excited at the opportunity to get on a new schedule. A new schedule is great and all, but it means nothing if the kids won’t hop in and help! You end up being the only one on the “new family schedule” and chaos slowly creeps back into your home. Well, we are here to help! Here are 6 tips to help you jump start your new family schedule and have the family help you out too!
We broke it down into MORNING, NOON, and NIGHT categories to help you take baby steps to a new routine and a more organized family life.
A healthy breakfast is a great way to jump start your kids in the morning to have a successful day. These healthy pancakes are full of protein, taste yummy and are sure to please even the pickiest of eaters. Make a huge batch one day and throw the extras in the freezer or fridge. In the morning the kids (or you) can throw a couple in the microwave and Viola, breakfast is served! A little planning ahead can really save time each morning!
Obviously we think Beddy's is the greatest thing since sliced bread, but really, zipping your bed is SO MUCH easier than "making" your bed. Bless their little hearts, but little kids have a really hard time making their beds with all the pulling and tucking required, they just don't know where to start or how to finish! With Beddy’s zipper bedding, making your bed is a breeze. This all in one bedding fits on your mattress like a fitted sheet and just zips up when it’s time to make the bed. No more fighting with the kids (or adults, or spouses) to get the bed made. With Beddy’s, making your bed is easy and FAST, everything you need in the morning!

I can’t tell you how many times the clock has turned to 5:30pm and everyone is STARVING and there is no meat or poultry thawed! Everything is in the freezer, which doesn’t do any good, so in the car we go to McDonald’s for dinner! With the New Year and your New Schedule, set an alarm on your phone at 11:00am for each day, to pull meat out of your freezer and start planning dinner. Then at 5:30pm when everyone is whining about being hungry, you have it all ready to go. It’s so June Cleaver like!
No matter how large or small your family is, laundry is a never-ending beast for everyone! So in order to tame that wild animal, just do 1 load of laundry each day and maybe you’ll even be able to take the weekend off! This way, you aren’t stuck one day, ALL DAY, washing, rotating, folding and putting away all of the laundry for the entire household. Just simply gather whatever laundry you find that day and throw it all in. Then by the end of the day, you’ve cleared out the animal that is laundry, and that beast is relaxed and sleeping… for now.

Getting your kids to practice their various musical instruments or even complete their homework is torture! Am I right?! One simple way to encourage them to practice or finish their homework, is with a small and simple prize. Reward your kids with 1 skittle for each song they practice or 5 m&m’s for each minute of homework completed. The kids can take your phone’s timer with them and track their own progress and then at the end of the allotted time, they get their reward. It may sound small but kids really are motivated by the smallest gestures. Plus, allowing your child to be in charge of their progression is so beneficial for their growth and self esteem.
When it comes to bedtime routines, they sure can vary amongst families but brushing and flossing teeth is usually on everyone’s list. Brushing your teeth is something most kids can do but flossing?! Flossing is a little more tricky for those little fingers. Even as adults, using that little thread to get in-between our teeth can be tricky. Well, there is a better solution! These floss sticks are much easier to use and maneuver and now flossing is less of a chore and more of an easy add-on to the bedtime routine.
BONUS Tip: Keep a bag in your car and have your kids, and you, floss while driving. Now it’s one less thing to do at night when everyone is exhausted!!
