Fun and Affordable Family Activities for Spring

With the warmer weather here, why not take advantage of spending it doing fun family activities. We know that your kids are just dying to go outside and get some sun so we have a few ideas that you should definitely take advantage of. Depending on where you live, some of these activities might apply more than others, but typically these are things you can do anywhere. These ideas are not anything new, but sometimes it’s nice to have a reminder that there are plenty of fun things you can do with your kids without spending a ton of money. In fact, most of these activities are things you can do for free!

1. Picnic at the park.

This is something so simple, but so enjoyable. Change up family dinner a bit and choose to make something that you can easily eat together on a blanket or at a picnic table. Your kids can bring balls, scooters, or whatever they think would be fun to play at the park. Take advantage of the time you are there with your kids and play the games with them. We know that you will make their day by joining. Playing outside and getting some fresh air is not just what every kid needs, but adults too. I promise it will be worth it. If you don’t want to take a huge meal, you could just do a fun dessert like Popsicle's. It really will be so fun!

2. Easy Walk Around the Neighborhood

Maybe you don’t have any parks around, but that doesn’t mean you can’t spend anytime outside. Go take a walk around your neighborhood. Go explore with your kids. The fresh air will feel so good and your kids will honestly love spending the time with you outside. If you have little ones you can take them in the stroller. If you have older ones, let them ride their scooters or their bikes or whatever they want to get around in. You all can just walk as well, but either way it is a simple way to spend time together and spend it outside.

3. Family bike ride.

Some may not own bikes, but for those of you that do, this is something that you definitely should take advantage of, especially if you have any cool trails near you. Your kids love riding their bikes, but they may be bored with only riding them around the nearby streets. Instead you guys could all explore new trails. One thing you could also do is ride your bikes to the nearest ice cream shop and go get some ice cream. Your kids will love this because it is a way for them to let out all their energy and enjoy being outside with the family. You could also all ride together to a park and let you kids run around there for a while. Whatever you choose, this is one activity that you kids are sure to love!

4. Backyard BBQ
Who doesn’t love getting together with family and friends. With the warm weather approaching, what better way to spend the day, then eating your dinner outside with loved ones. You don’t have to invite anyone, but it might be a good way to get to know your neighbors or an excuse to get together with your friends. Barbecues are always fun, and honestly it is an activity that people of all ages will enjoy.
5. Find a local trail to hike with your kids.
This is something that may or may not work, depending on where you live. But lots of times there are still paved trails that loop through your city’s parks that would be just as fun to take you kids. So if you do live close to somewhere you can hike, we definitely recommend taking your kids. What better way to spend time together than hiking. The best part is that many times you can search on the internet for local hikes and you will find them rated by how easy or challenging they are and whether or not they are family friendly.  Hiking is great exercise and a super fun way to spend time outside with your kids. You can explore the nature around you. If hiking isn’t your speed, then you can find a local paved trail that will take you around the city. You kids will love this too! Honestly they will love anywhere you take them that you get to do together.
6. Go out for ice cream or snow cones.
Because spring is here and summer is coming, there are lots of ice cream shops and snow cone shacks opening for the season. Technically you can get ice cream all year long, but what better way to get it than when it’s nice and warm outside. You kids will love this, because what kids don’t like going out and getting treats? Yes it may be easier to bring ice cream home, but your kids will love the outing. A lot of these places have seats where you can enjoy the food outside and if they don’t, you could drive to a nearby park and eat the ice cream there. This is just another simple activity that your kids will really love, and it will be so worth it to take them.
